From humble beginnings to becoming a renowned chef, my journey has been one of passion, resilience, and an unshakable love for Jamaican cuisine. My name is Alex D-Great, a Certified Professional Chef by The Culinary Institute of America and a Certified Executive Chef by Cardiff Hall Hospitality Institute. As the owner of D-Great Experience and Catering Services Limited, I have spent over 15 years perfecting my craft, merging the richness of roots Jamaican dishes with the sophistication of modern fine dining.

My culinary journey began at just two years old, though not in the way most chefs start. One day, while exploring the kitchen, I pulled down a bowl of piping hot soup on myself, leaving burns and scars that would remain for life. Feeling self-conscious about these marks as I grew, I found a simple solution—to become a chef to, wear chef hats to hide them. Little did I know, that this decision would shape my future. What started as a way to conceal scars became a lifelong commitment to the kitchen, where I would create art through food and bring Jamaican cuisine to the world stage.

I have always believed that Jamaican food deserves a place in the fine dining market, alongside the refined cuisines of Europe, Asia, and beyond. My goal is to modernize Jamaican cuisine while preserving its deep cultural roots, creating dishes that speak to tradition yet exude sophistication. Whether it’s a reinvented Curried Goat dish, a Jamaican-inspired gourmet tasting menu, or a fusion of international flavours with our island’s bold spices, I push the boundaries of what Jamaican food can be.

Through D-Great Experience and Catering Services, I am able bring this vision to life, serving elite weddings, corporate events, high-profile private dinners, and food styling projects. My work has already being reached the tables of international and local celebrities

Beyond the kitchen, my mission extends to mentorship, leadership, and giving back. I have played an instrumental role in developing young chefs, guiding them not only in mastering culinary techniques but also in adopting the mindset of persistence, creativity, and excellence.

My passion for community engagement is equally strong. I serve as a football club president, actively participate in church activities, and most importantly, take pride in my role as a father to currently two incredible sons. Balancing fatherhood, business, mentorship, and charity work is no easy feat, but I believe in the power of growth, collaboration, and resilience to create lasting change in both the culinary world and society.

My journey has taken me through luxury hotels across St. Ann, multiple establishments in Montego Bay, and numerous kitchens across Jamaica, where I have consulted and assisted in revitalizing culinary concepts. But I am not done yet. The next chapter of my career is dedicated to pushing Jamaican cuisine even further—on global stages, in fine dining establishments, and in the hearts of those who experience my food.

Jamaican food tells a story of history, resilience, creativity, joy with what we have and rebellions in our bold flavour. My mission is to ensure that story is heard, seen, and most importantly, tasted worldwide on every level.

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world came to a standstill. Restaurants emptied, hotels shut their doors, and the once-thriving hospitality industry faced an uncertain future. Among those affected was Executive Sous Chef Alex D-Great, a culinary artist who had spent years perfecting his craft in luxury hotels, creating exquisite dining experiences for high-profile guests and large operation. But when the world paused, so did his career.

Instead of dwelling on the loss, Alex saw an opportunity. With a passion for food that could not be extinguished, he took his skills door-to-door, offering private dinners to those who still craved fine dining even in isolation. It was an intimate experience—beautifully plated gourmet meals, prepared fresh and served in the comfort of people’s homes. What started as a small, personal service quickly turned into something much greater.

Determined to rebuild his dream, Alex expanded his offerings. He started with box lunches, cooking & delivering meals with bold and unforgettable flavours. Then came Curried Goat Fridays—a concept that became an instant hit. The rich, flavourful dish, cooked to perfection, brought warmth and comfort during uncertain times. Soon, dinner for two and small birthday parties became part of the growing business. Every dish carried a signature touch—an infusion of international cuisine with modern Jamaican food—creating a dining experience unlike any other.

Word spread like wildfire. People couldn’t get enough. They raved about the flavours, the presentation, and the memories attached to each meal. Long after the pandemic faded, the demand for D’Great Experience and Catering Services only intensified. People searched, called, and hunted for the chef behind the unforgettable flavours.

As demand grew, so did the vision. What started in homes quickly expanded to elite weddings, high-profile corporate events, and exclusive private parties. The company evolved into a powerhouse, working alongside elite event planners and serving an impressive clientele of celebrities and business moguls. From Usain Bolt to Asafa Powell, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Wayne Marshall, and Tommy Chin, the name D’Great Experience became synonymous with excellence and innovation.
